A PLANNING application for a new piece of sculpture at the front of St Mary’s church in Little Parndon has been approved despite the reservations of an Old Harlow councillor.
The matter was voted through on Tuesday night.
The artist David Murphy, Gibberd Gallery curator, Kate Harding and Rev Jokey Poyntz all spoke in favour of the application.
All councillors supported it except Old Harlow councillor, Mike Garnett who expressed his reservations regarding modern art, referencing the work of Carl Andre (pile of bricks) and David Mach (tyres).
Cllr Garnett asked if a cross could be put on top of the art.
Discussion of the item can be seen below (45th minute onwards).
