HARLOW golfer Gabriella Cowley has become the first event winner within the highly anticipated 2021 Rose Ladies Series, supported by Europe’s leading golf retailer, American Golf

A member of the Hanbury Manor Golf Club, Gabriella, 25, took home a first prize sum of £10k, after completing 18 holes in 71 strokes at West Lancashire Golf Club on Thursday 29th April. Gabriella has now earnt her place within the final, which will take place at Bearwood Lakes on 25th September carrying a £20k prize pot.

The 2021 campaign follows the inaugural Rose Ladies Series which took place last year, founded and funded by Justin Rose MBE, former number one and Major champion along with his wife Kate Rose. Contributing £35k in prize money, while American Golf and Computacenter UK matched the total as title sponsors, the events were intended to plug the gaps that had been left from the cancelled Ladies European Tour tournaments.  Now, it is hoped that the Rose Ladies Series will provide the springboard for women golfers to step up their fight for equality in the sport.

Gabriella, who turned pro in 2014 after representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup said: “I’m over the moon to win the event – it’s been a fantastic day being out on the course able to compete again.  I spent lockdown practicing at home with my TrackMan to ensure that I maintained my skills, but obviously nothing compares to being outside, working towards a title again.

“I took up golf at 13 years old when my dad started to take me down to the range and never looked back.  I hope the Rose Ladies Series and other similar events encourage more females to get into golf as the enjoyment and satisfaction that comes from playing – and winning! – is amazing.”

Gary Favell, CEO, American Golf said: “We are delighted that Gabriella has become the 2021 Rose Ladies Series first event winner, kicking off the campaign with gusto!  As the title sponsor for the second year running, American Golf is proud to back this fantastic tournament which aligns perfectly with our own values.

“Promoting gender inclusivity within the sport and providing additional opportunities for female golfers to showcase their talent is so important in breaking down player barriers.  The American Golf team wishes Gabriella every luck for the final in September!”

The 2021 Rose Ladies Series will be split into three sections – in April and May, August, and September – to coincide with gaps in the Ladies European Tour season.
