Cricket: Harlow Town fall to Westcliff on first day of league season

Cricket / Fri 14th May 2021 at 03:16pm

HARLOW Town kicked off their league campaign with an away trip to Westcliff On Sea. The early morning rain lead to the match being delayed and therefore a reduction of overs from 45 to 41.

Town made the perfect start when Chauhan dismissed Barnes in the first over of the match.  Town continued to take early wickets, however were not able to keep the run rate down. And when Robbins was joined at the crease by Portugal, this turned out to be a key partnership. Town finally managed to break the 145 run partnership, but it was a little too late as Robbin’s ended up getting to his ton shortly after. The home side finished their inning on 257-6 with Sam Wilson being the pick of the bowlers.

Town suffered a terrible start to their chase as they were reduced to 19-4 in the first 10 overs. Town needed to pick up the run rate if they had any chance of an unlikely win and with Teale at the crease they began to do so. However, not too far after Town reached the 100 mark, Teale was dismissed trying to keep rate up. A few more blows were made late on by Farmer but this was not enough as Town were bowled out for 177, the away team falling short by 92 runs.
