GABRIELLA Cowley from Harlow is fast becoming the star of the 2021 Rose Ladies Series, as she claimed a second victory at the fourth event which took place at The Berkshire Golf Club, Ascot on Friday 21st May.
Supported by Europe’s leading golf retailer, American Golf, the latest Rose Ladies Series event saw Gabriella, 25, take home the first prize sum of £10k after she won down the par 3 1st hole after a 4 hole playoff.
Now with two titles under her belt, Gabriella, who is a member of the Hanbury Manor Golf Club, will take her place at the Rose Ladies Series final at Bearwood Lakes on 25th September, which carries a £20k prize pot.
The 2021 campaign follows the inaugural Rose Ladies Series which took place last year, founded and funded by Justin Rose MBE, former number one and Major champion along with his wife Kate Rose. Contributing £35k in prize money, while American Golf and Computacenter UK matched the total as title sponsors, the events were intended to plug the gaps that had been left from the cancelled Ladies European Tour tournaments. Now, it is hoped that the Rose Ladies Series will provide the springboard for women golfers to step up their fight for equality in the sport.
Gabriella, who turned pro in 2014 after representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won my second Rose Ladies Series event of the 2021 season – I really didn’t expect this but I can’t tell you how good it feels to be competing on a regular basis once again. It was fantastic to be up against such talented players and despite the challenging weather conditions it was an incredible day all round!”
Gary Favell, CEO, American Golf said: “The 2021 Rose Ladies Series has already provided us with some amazing golfing moments that will be talked about for a long time to come and Gabriella’s playoff victory is definitely one of them. As the Rose Ladies Series title sponsor for the second year running, American Golf is proud to support the players and be involved in every event which showcases such impressive golfing talent.
“Promoting gender inclusivity within the sport and providing platforms for female golfers to compete is crucial to the future of golf and levelling out the playing field, so to speak. The American Golf team is excited to follow Gabriella’s progress to the final in September!”
The 2021 Rose Ladies Series is split into three sections – in April and May, August, and September – to coincide with gaps in the Ladies European Tour season.
