Athletics: Sure-footed performance by Jack in Lee Valley Half Marathon

HARLOW Running Club member Jack Shury finished in an excellent 6th place out of 225 finishers at the Lee Valley Half Marathon, in his debut at the distance, in a superb 1hr 22min 31sec. He was followed by Martin Westley in 15th place in 1.29.17 and Dave Goosetree 111th in 1.58.20.
Meanwhile, at the Lee Valley 10k Terri Wiley finished in 22nd place out of 130 finishers and 3rd Female in a commendable 46.07 and Paige Bircham was 26th in 47.24.
The Kimbolton Half Marathon in Cambridgeshire is centred around the historic Kimbolton Castle, last home of King Henry VIII’s first wife, Katharine of Aragon. Sean Flynn finished in 128th place out of 350 finishers in 1.53.45 and Michael Houlihan was 137th in 1.54.21.
Gail Nicholls finished in 2nd place out of 18 finishers in the Phoenix Running Events Half Marathon, run along the River Stort, in 2.13.38.
At the Chase the Sun 10k at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Tom Wheatley finished in 28th place out of 262 finishers in 41.4.
The 4th round of the Essex 10k Cross Country Series was held at Hadleigh Park, near Benfleet, where Ben Usher finished in 39th place out of 233 finishers in 50.4 and Lex Ellington was 50th in 52.34.
59 runners participated in 12 parkruns including 47 at Harlow. There were PBs for Mark Bentley, John McCarthy and Bradley Holmes, all at Harlow parkrun and Sandra Webber at Gorleston Cliffs parkrun at Great Yarmouth.
