Athletics: Super Vet Colin strikes gold at Essex Half Marathon Champs

HARLOW Running Club claimed two gold medals from the Essex Half Marathon Championships held at Pleshey on Sunday morning. Sandi Rust won the Female Vet 50 Gold Medal when finishing 111th out of 249 finishers in an excellent 1hr 45min 36sec. Colin Moody won the Men’s Vet 70 Gold Medal when finishing in 115th place in 1.46.11. This was also a Club Vet 70 record, last set in March 2015, and Colin’s second club record in as many weeks. Also running were Martin Westley in 38th place in 1.27.30 and John Tennant 163rd in 1.57.32.
Meanwhile, at the Stevenage 10k Paige Bircham finished in 67th place out of 394 finishers in a superb 47.04, Bobby Draper was 77th in 48.05, Mark Bentley 150th in 53.52 and Sandra Westgate 151st in a PB time of 53.52.
At the Stansted 10k Teresa Stickland finished in 116th place out of 195 finishers in 1.04.18.
The Quendon and Rickling 10K is a multi-terrain race between Bishop’s Stortford and Saffron Walden. Vicky Steadman was 15th out of 72 finishers and 2nd Female in 50.08 and Janice Page 35th and 2nd Female Vet 50 in 57.02.
Jon Waight finished in 11th place out of 168 finishers at the Gunpowder parkrun at Waltham Abbey in a PB time of 19.56.
At the National Aquathlon Championships in Worthing (.75k sea swim, 5k run) Gail Nicholls finished in 99th place out of 144 finishers in 39.42, including a PB in the 5k run.
The Serpentine Swim in Hyde Park, in aid of Children with Cancer UK, is the UK’s biggest open water swimming event. Jason Pite completed the 2 mile swim in 626th place out of 2302 finishers in 1.08.51.
