AN Essex County Council (ECC) Arts and Cultural Fund which will unlock £1,000,000 of funding over five years to support the creative sector is now open for applications.
A new £1 million fund by Essex County Council (ECC) which will support the county’s art and culture sector over the next five years is now open for applications.
Creative organisations which submit successful applications will see the ECC Arts and Cultural Fund provide grants from £2,500 to £30,000 to deliver projects to help support and rejuvenate the Essex arts and culture sector, as well as the county’s towns and city high streets.
Since the initial announcement, over 100 artists and cultural organisations throughout the county have expressed an interest in the fund, which opened to applications on Tuesday 4th January 2022.
The £1,000,000 fund will support projects within the music, theatre, dance, visual arts, literature, combined arts, including festivals and carnivals, museums and creative sectors.
Individual artists and co-operatives, as well as community groups, charities and trusts, community interest companies, social enterprises and private and public organisations are all eligible to apply.
The new Arts and Cultural Fund aims to rejuvenate the sector which – prior to the pandemic – employed over 25,000 people and was worth an estimated £2.6 billion to the Essex economy.
Councillor Graham Butland, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Devolution, the Arts Heritage and Culture, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response from the artistic and cultural community since we first announced the launch of this new fund, as demonstrated by the sheer number of expressions of interest we have received.
“The Arts and Cultural Fund is open to all and will support the diverse and vibrant communities we have in the county, from grassroots community groups to large organisations. I would encourage everyone who is eligible to apply as a thriving creative sector is part of a strong economy and one which will rejuvenate our high streets.”
The Arts and Cultural Fund opened on Tuesday 4th January 2022 and applications are being accepted until the closing date of Monday 28th February 2022. Successful grant submissions will be announced at the end of March 2022.
