Athletics: Harlow’s Lucy shines at Essex X-Country Champs

AT the Essex County Senior Cross Country Championship, at Basildon on Saturday, the ladies race was over 8k and the men 10k.
In the Ladies Championships Harlow Running and Tri Club’s Lucy Barnes finished in an excellent 5th place out of 125 finishers in 31min 26sec. Terri Wiley was 38th in 36.24, Fieke Blackwell 59th in 39.19 and Linda Helm-Manley 71st in 40.51.
In the Men’s Championships Pas Blackwell finished in 64th place out of 192 finishers in 38.25, Martin Westley was 110th in 42.45 and Chris Arnell 180th in 50.47.
It should noted that Lucy Barnes, Terri Wiley, Fieke Blackwell, Martin Westley and Chris Arnell all ran in the Sunday race as well, making their performances all the more remarkable.
At the Essex Run Fest at Debden Airfield, Saffron Walden, there were races run at various distances and a Duathlon, all run around a 5k lap.
In the 20k race Amber Ingle finished in 4th place out of 19 finishers in a superb 1.37.26. She was followed by blind runner Paul Watts and his guide Dave Goosetree in 18th and 19th places both in 2.13.37.
In the 10k race Janice Page finished in 48th place out of 50 finishers in 59.34.
In the Standard Duathlon (10k run, 32k bike, 5k run) Vicky Steadman finished in 8th place out of 27 finishers and 2nd Female in 2.23.59.
Luke Howard ran a PB at Harlow Parkrun, finishing in 11th place out of 192 finishers in 21.15.
