A FORMER leader of Harlow Council is set to stand down at the next local elections.
Harlow Common councillor Mark Wilkinson made the announcement at a meeting of the Potter Street Residents Association on Wednesday night.
He was up for re-election in 2023 and with boundary changes would be up again in 2024.
Councillor Wilkinson was most noted for leading Labour back into power in 2012 after a number of years in opposition.
He will be remembered in politics as a councillor of utmost integrity and conscience.
When councillor Wilkinson stood up to make statement in a council meeting you knew it would be straight to the point, fact based and coherent.
Labour will miss him and he will be difficult to replace.
Best wishes to Mark Wilkinson. Although we represent different political parties, as fellow councillors, we have worked together openly and productively on issues relating to Harlow Common and its residents.
I'm sorry to see Mark Wilkinson leaving the council. I always thought he was an asset to the Labour team even though I had criticisms of him on certain policy issues. The shame is that there will be one less trade unionist giving input to the council. I wish him well for the future and hope he enjoys his increased leisure time.
Mark Wilkinson has been a great asset for the council and Labour Party. I am glad I had the privilege to work with him I wish Mark all the best and I am sure he will carry on with his Trade Union work.
As his opposite number in Housing on the council over the years I like to feel we worked well together for the benefit of our tenants and leaseholders. He is passionate about housing and he leaves large boots to fill. Best wishes for your future, Mark, and whatever new ventures you undertake.
Bye, Bye, you want be missed, I will miss you like I would miss another he in my head.
Bye,Bye. You will most definitely be missed in my opinion for more than one reason, jealously being one of them. So BYE
