PLANNING applications for two new Harlow Council housing developments are to be considered by councillors at next Wednesday’s (17 August 2022) Development Management Committee.
If approved, all 18 homes would be owned by Harlow Council and rented out to Harlow families on the Harlow Housing Needs Register.
The first application to be considered for The Yorkes, Tye Green is to build six brand new bungalows. The proposed development is on vacant land adjacent to a care home. If approved, the homes would be exclusively for over 55s and would be built using the latest technology to help the new homes deliver low running costs for tenants and deliver net zero carbon emissions.
The second application for Perry Road is to build 12 brand new apartments with space for retail and office units on the ground and first floors. The proposed development is on the former Lister House site in Staple Tye. If approved, the development would include 2 one-bedroom apartments, 8 two-bedroom apartments and 2 three-bedroom apartments with 2 apartments having wheelchair access.
The developments are part of Harlow Council’s housebuilding programme agreed in March 2022. The council plans to build hundreds of new houses, apartments, and bungalows for Harlow families. The first phase of the programme aims to build 99 council homes between 2022 and 2024.

Hi everyone will thease be 1 bedroom bungerlows or 2 iam intrested in them i have four bedroom house pytt field. My husdand is 66 and iam 61. We also have my grandaughter liveing with us who is 17.
We desperately need more council housing especially bungalows.
I like the artist's impression of the Perry Road apartments, shops and offices. S really good mix for its location. Well done Harlow Council.
I’m interested if there’s any plumbing work needed
Kim, there are 4 TWO bedroomed homes being built at the Yorkes. A very welcome step in providing homes which older residents can downsize from their present home, releasing them for families in need of a larger one. It is something of a shame that the same approach was not taken at the former Lister House site, that is, all 2 bedroomed and for over 55's. This is one of the Harlow Alliance Party's main campaign issues, I believe the two bedroom bungalows at Yorkes will be the first that the Council has ever built so credit where credit is due.
