Athletics: Impressive double for Westley

HARLOW Running and Tri Club had twelve members contest the Hatfield 5 mile race on Sunday Morning. The flat course and the mild weather resulted in two Club Records and four personal best times. Rob Lowe led the way in 18th place out of 655 finishers and 1st Male Vet 50 in an excellent 27min 50sec, a PB and Male Vet 50 Club Record. Lucy Barnes was 32nd and 2nd Female in a superb 29.10 in her debut at the distance and a new Female Senior Club Record. Pas Blackwell was 19th in 27.52(Debut), Jon Waight 87th in 32.50, Catherine Ridge 101st and 1st Female Vet 35 in 33.26(PB), Chris Mella 125th in 34.25(Debut), Thomas Beales 126th in 34.11(PB), Chris Arnell 197th in 37.01(PB), John Tennant 247th and 2nd Male Vet 70 in 39.15, Kate Porter 316th in 42.08(PB), Paul Watts 457th in 47.11 and Dave Goosetree 458th in 47.12.
Meanwhile, at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon Martin Westley finished in 28th place out of 1921 finishers in 1hr 22min 54sec. He was followed home by Bradley Power 452nd in 1.43.28(Debut), Vicky Steadman 473rd in 1.47.31, Laura Prime 943rd in 1.56.29, Sam Carter 1004th in 1.57.46, Bradley Holmes 1094th in 1.59.14, Michelle Sheridan 1105th in 1.59.19, Selina Morgan 1509th in 2.13.00(Debut), Julie Ireland 1684th in 2.21.25(Debut) in 2.21.25, Teresa Stickland 1687th in 2.21.43, Steve Wright 1756th in 2.26.36(Debut) and Millie McGovern 1757th in 2.26.37(Debut).
At the Bass Belle 10 mile race at Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, Charleen Tillotson was 265th out of 356 finishers in 1.42.15, a PB by more than 12min, and Karen Greenall 298th in 1.47.02(PB).
Liz Roberts finished the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 10k in 327th place out of 508 finishers in 1.02.56.
In the latest round of the Essex League Cross Country, at Writtle, in the Ladies race over a 6k distance, Fieke Blackwell finished in 38th place out of 141 finishers in 29.19 and Terri Wiley was 49th in 30.24.
In the Men’s race over an 8k distance Martin Westley finished in 87th place out of 239 finishers in 30.45, Tom Beales was 156th in 34.17 and Mark Unwin 229th in 41.19.
At Harlow parkrun there were PBs from Scott Bird in 2nd place out of 204 finishers in 18.16, Rob Peters 29th in 24.21, Glen Wilson 34th in 24.29 and Jamie Olsen 55th in 25.50.
