A FANTASTIC Sam Wilson hat-trick set Harlow Town on their way to victory away at Ardleigh Green and Havering-Atte-Bower on Saturday. Losing the toss, skipper Ronnie Yates was asked to field first on a flat wicket as Ardleigh Green sensed an opportunity to put on a big score.
However, Sam Wilson (3-15) had different ideas and his hat-trick ensured he smashed his way through the top order courtesy of some excellent line and length. Ronak Patel (2-26) also chipped in to dismiss the home team opening batter, leaving them teetering at 10-4. The Town bowling attack continued to work hard, and were duly rewarded as Nabeel Akhtar (2-12) took the key wickets of the Ardleigh Green middle order in consecutive balls, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick himself. Ronak Patel took another wicket, as did Ronnie Yates (1-8), whilst Sam Charles (2-36) cleaned up the innings including the wicket of the home team top scorer. In the end Town were set 124 to win, which could’ve proved difficult on a slow outfield.
Town started slowly in reply with Daniel Baldwin chipping the ball to mid wicket for 0, and Joe Spiers edging one to second slip leaving Town 9-2. Up stepped Ausman Ginai (39) and Ben Tyne (68 not out), who put on a fantastic 94 run partnership to wrestle control back in Towns favour. Ginai eventually fell to a smart caught and bowled, whilst Tyne continued to score freely. Pat Yates (5) seemed in a rush to get the game finished and was finally caught playing some un-Pat like shots. Shaun Alderson came in with 2 runs needed to win, however Tyne was not to be denied in taking the glory and finished the game with a massive 6 that nearly landed on the main road. Town eventually finished on 128-4 for their second consecutive win of the season.
Harlow Town 2nd XI were narrowly defeated at home against Old Southendians. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first Jay Lowles (49) and Jack Elston (23) got Town off to a flying start, however only 2 other batters made double figures as Town ended their innings on 168 all out. In reply the Town bowlers dismissed the top order with Tom Wilcox (1-23), Jack Elston (1-40) and Simon Rowell (2-23) amongst the wicket takers. Thereafter the middle order of the visitors proved stubborn with Rowell and Vineet Jain (2-36) taking wickets however with the batters in control they were able to see out the innings in spite of a wicket from Taylor Wood (1-5).
Harlow 3rd XI suffered an agonising last ball defeat at home against Roding Valley. Posting an impressive 251/9 from their 40 overs courtesy of a fantastic 99 from Aaron Bowden, 42 from Andy Bird and 40 from Dan Hawkins, Town would’ve fancied their chances. However they were to suffer a cruel defeat as High Roding knocked off the final run with the penultimate ball of the match. Wickets for Town were taken by Joe Thomas (3-40), Bowden (3-40), Calvin Quadir (2-23) and Hawkins (1-53).
This week Harlow Town first XI welcome Goresbrook who are also undefeated in league action so far this season winning both of their games extremely comfortably. The 2nd XI travel to Ardleigh Green whilst the 3rd XI travel to Woodford Wells.
