ROBERT Halfon determined to work with local charities to ensure that Harlow remains a compassionate town to those living with dementia.
As part of his ongoing support for Dementia Action Week, Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow, spent his weekend attending the Dementia Fair hosted by St Paul’s Church. Mr Halfon told this paper that it has strengthened his determination to continue to work with all local charities and groups to ensure that Harlow continues to be a compassionate town to all those living with dementia.
Mr Halfon was delighted to speak to all those present about all their hard work both in raising awareness but also in caring for those who have been affected by dementia, including friends, family members or loved ones.
Mr Halfon told Your Harlow that he welcomes the Government’s work to end dementia, pouring hundreds of millions into research projects with leading experts to ensure that in the future no one has to endure such pain.
Mr Halfon commenting on the Fair says: “I am determined to continue to work with all local charities and groups to ensure that Harlow continues to be a compassionate town for all those living with dementia. As such, I was delighted to attend Harlow’s Dementia Fair this Saturday during Dementia Action Week at St Paul’s Church. I would like to thank all the groups who were there; Rainbow Services, Heart4Harlow, Harlow Hospital Radio, St Clare’s Hospice and Dementia Adventure for all they do to support our community.
“I was proud to stand on a manifesto that identified finding a cure for dementia as one of the Government’s biggest priorities. This Conservative Government has a keen focus on science, technology and research, and is doing a lot to improve resources into what can be such a debilitating disease. Research funding for dementia is rising to a total of £160 million a year by 2024, with a further £95 million being provided to increase clinical trials and research projects.
“It is my hope that this funding will be felt not just in Harlow, but nationwide as we endeavour to find a cure to help everyone who might be suffering from dementia themselves, or family and friends impacted by caring for their loved ones.”
The term suffering with dementia is a very old fashioned detrimental term. I suggest mr Halfon reads up on the terminology which is acceptable which is “living with dementia.” That’s what we are trying to promote that people can still live when they have a diagnosis of dementia. Using the term suffering does not help.
Everything we say these days we seem to get corrected on.
Halfon determined to get another publicity plug.
FAO: C. Did you mean, It seems to be that we are to be corrected upon everything that we may say these days?
What a shame so much depends on charity due to the ongoing cuts to services and disastrous economic policies at the central government.
