Athletics: Veterans have spring in their step at Springfield

HARLOW Running and Tri Club members contested the Springfield Striders Friday Night 5 (miles) at Pleshey last week which also doubled as the Essex 5 Mile Championships. Even though the course was very undulating there were two Essex Medals, two Club Records and three personal bests for HRTC.
The Essex Medals were won by Harlow’s more experienced female runners. Joanne Mills finished in 230th place out of 243 finishers and 1st Female Vet 70 in 51min 10sec to win the Gold Medal in her category. This was also a new Female Vet 75 Club Record.
Susan Maloney was 220th and 3rd Female Vet 60 in 49.36 which won her the Bronze Medal in her category.
Catherine Ridge finished in 103rd place in an excellent 34.24, a new Female Vet 40 Club Record which was previously set in 2014.
There were PB performances from Chris Arnell, finishing in 131st place in 36.58, Michelle Sheridan 174th in 41.38 and Liz Roberts 206th in 46.05.
First finisher for HRTC was Martin Westley, finishing in 50th place in 31.13, Andy Terrell was 81st in 32.45 and Tom Beales 92nd in 33.24.

Meanwhile, at the Hitchin Hard Half Marathon, a very hilly race, Claire Carter finished in 130th place out of 144 finishers in 2hrs 33min 34sec.
At the Welwyn 10k Hayden Rhodes finished in 46th place out of 479 finishers in 47.47.
The Dambuster Triathlon takes place in the heart of Rutland and comprises either a Standard or Sprint event.
In the Standard Triathlon (1500m lake swim, 40k Cycle, 10k run) Ben Usher finished in 211th place out of 389 finishers in 2.52.52.
In the Sprint Triathlon (750m lake swim, 20k cycle, 5k run) Terri Wiley finished in 22nd place out of 137 finishers and 3rd Female Vet 30 in 1.23.50.
At the Cardiff Triathlon Sprint World Championship Qualifier (Cardiff Bay Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 4.8km) Suzi Middleton finished 11th in female age group 45-49 in 1.25.09.
Mel Harris completed the Eton Dorney Swim (2.5k) as 1st Female Vet 65 in a time of 1.47.53.
At Harlow parkrun Nigel Barton finished in 184th place out of 251 finishers in a PB time of 35.54.
