“Please repair our pavements” pleads Chapel Fields resident

News / Thu 29th Jun 2023 at 12:40pm

OVER the last month or so, we have seen words and deeds regarding the repair to potholes across Harlow.

But a number of residents have contacted us regarding the state of their pavements.

There is a system for reporting repairs but that does not guarantee that pavement will be repaired.

It all depends on what is said after the inspection.

So we thought this would be a good opportunity to track a repair.

We have been contacted by Dave Moore from Chapel Fields.

The pavement near his home is, according to Mr Moore, impassable.

Dave said: “My wife Janice is in a wheelchair. Whether I am pushing her or she is using her mobility scooter, we simply can’t use the pavement.

We are forced onto the road. The council have to recognise that on any road that is dangerous but we live on what can only be described as a rat run.

“Cars cut across from London Road to get to Southern Way.

“I will not have my wife risking her life by being in the road”.

So Dave has registered the issue via the Essex Highways site and says he will keep us updated.

How good to have a picture of the probem he and many others face. If the problem lays with ECC then Dave has a major issue to contend with. They have such a disasterous long term record of Highway problems not having the attention required for public safety. Harlow County Councillors merely take considerable expenses from both HDC & ECC and ECC staff possibly uncontrolable, for whatever reason. It needs investigating.

This is an utter disgrace and no doubt it has been caused by people parking their cars and vans on the pavement. This is what the future looks like for harlow.

This has been reported previously, but I will take this up again today as a priority repair.

Cllr Leppard, so why do the Council feel it is acceptable to build 10 houses on the Sherards House site where one of the two entrances to 10 houses on the new estate will not have any path to and from it, requiring residents and visitors walking over 50 metres in the road? Harlow Council should be leading by example and not try to cram so many houses on a plot of land. There is also very limited visitor parking spaces which will undoubtable lead to parking on pavements.

"Reported previously, but I will take it up again". Why was it not dealt with 'previously'? This happens too often.

Paths, roads, our pot holes out side my house are huge, paths are a disgrace.. yesterday were out to do my road, I opened door, to see them being sprayed with red paint,, said that's 3rd time now they have been sprayed,, oh we are doing them today, came home ,only to find two done on corner. The hole road is awful, and those by the pub ,,phoenix,, on the hump, are a disgrace.. Ecc are just rubbish, and Harlow council are no better.
