Unauthorised traveller encampment leaves Harlow following order by council

News / Thu 6th Jul 2023 at 12:36pm

AN unauthorised traveller encampment has left Harlow following a notice by Harlow Council

Councillor Dan Swords, Leader of the Council, said: “Following the swift and decisive action to serve a notice on the encampment, the caravans and vehicles left Second Avenue this morning.

“Once again, I would like to thank our Community Safety team and the Police for their work to resolve this situation both safely and swiftly. This is another encampment which has been resolved using the existing powers available to the council with the support of the police. The impact on our residents and the town’s green spaces was kept to a minimum thanks to the work which took place.  We will now be looking at what further preventative measures can be put in place to provide extra protection to our green spaces.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach to unauthorised traveller encampments, and that’s why we dealt with the situation swiftly immediately and served the encampment with a notice to leave.”

“The action we take will always be about upholding the law, responding to the concerns of residents, and protecting the town’s open spaces.”   ☎️

Residents can report unauthorised encampments to 01279 446655 during office hours, 01279 446666 out of hours or via 101 at any time.
