News / Fri 20th Oct 2023 at 09:02am
NATIONAL Highways is advising road users intending to use the Dartford Crossing towards Essex this weekend to leave extra time for their journeys as an overnight closure of the Dartford West tunnel is planned to take place.
National Highways is planning safety inspections and maintenance work on the west tunnel which will take place for two consecutive overnight closures on these following dates:
10pm on Saturday 21 October until 5am on Sunday 22 October
10pm on Saturday 28 October until 5am on Sunday 29 October
The QEII bridge will remain open and operational throughout this period.
Amelia Yeodal, National Highways Team Leader Operations South East, said:
“We are carrying out overnight inspections and maintenance work on the Dartford west tunnel over the next two weekends. Drivers should follow the diversion route signs for Dartford Crossing northbound traffic which will be in place via the adjacent east tunnel during both nights.”
Road users are also advised that the waterproofing and resurfacing work planned between M25 junction 31 and junction 30 this month, has been postponed until Spring 2024. This will increase the possibility of mild and dry weather conditions that are required to complete this work.
