Fly-tipping unpunished in 95% of cases in Essex, data shows

NEARLY 20,000 fly-tipping incidents were reported in Essex in the past year – but fewer than 5% led to fines or prosecutions reports the BBC.
There were 19,827 reported fly-tipping incidents between April 2022 and March 2023, up from 18,834 the previous year.
The Countryside Alliance described the figures as “shocking” and said the issue blighted urban and rural areas.
The Local Government Association said fly-tipping cases were often hard to prosecute.
The data covered 13 of Essex’s 14 local council authorities. The BBC contacted the other authority, Castle Point Borough Council, but it did not respond to the request.

No instead the council fine people who are not involved with the fly tipping. Intact all the fly tipper has to do is dump it somewhere near your property and it is the resident who lives there that has to pay for the clean up! Harlow council are disgraceful.
Just make taking stuff to the tip easily. Sure, it will create a lot of rubbish but surely better than the cost, financially and environmentally, of clearing it all up from all over?
Plant trackers and employ a team specifically to track the perpetrators.
Harlow council, how's this new system working out for you.. People should be able to dump there rubbish at tips ,with out all the fuss that comes with it... you were warned this would happen, you were more focused on the long cues, its a pitty you never focused on the long cues all over Harlow.... just make it easier to dump. On line this ,,on line that. We knew where we was on old system.
When the YH article originally came out about the "booking system", I did say fly tipping would increase. My "Watch this space" closure comment has just become a reality !! But of course it has not been caused by ECC has it? OH YES IT HAS !!
There is no excuse for fly tipping you cant blame the on line booking system for that .but I don't think you need booking system Monday to Friday I am a pensioner there is hardly eny cars in there Monday to Friday
Harlow Council It's about time you started putting skips on problem estates so these people who continue to dump have some where to ut there rubbish in the long term it saves money on clean ups this is something the council use to do
