Council undertakes evictions and demolishes buildings at Fern Hill traveller site

News / Fri 24th Nov 2023 at 08:57am

ESSEX County Council enforced a number of evictions and demolished buildings on Fern Hill Lane last Friday afternoon.

A number of readers contacted YH as they saw a large number of police officers as well as a digger on a low lower travelling up Fern Hill Lane.

A spokesperson for Essex County Council said: “An Essex County Council operation was carried out with police support on the Fern Hill traveller site as part of ongoing site management efforts.

“As part of the operation, which related to an illegal encampment on the site, abandoned and vandalised utility buildings were demolished.

“The operation did not relate to any legal resident on site or their pitches.”

Does it not show the lawlessness of the Fernhill Site that council officials needed a heavy police presence so the council officers could do their job in dealing with an illegal encampment?

Should have bulldozed it years ago, costing the taxpayer thousands to police it on a regular basis, essex police are always up there for one thing or another, provide them with a place to settle and that's the thanks you get.

can you not read michael "“The operation did not relate to any legal resident on site or their pitches.” , would you buy a house in nearby gibbs croft with a bomb site yards up the road, i have no problem with legal residents on the site its a small minority that ruin it for everyone else
