Penny Mordaunt MP and broadcaster Alastair Stewart speak to Harlow Conservatives
News / Sun 3rd Dec 2023 at 10:52am
IT was a busy Friday for Harlow Conservatives with a number of high profile visitors.
In the afternoon, the leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt MP came to speak to the Tories.
Ms Mordaunt made a rallying speech at the recent Tory party conference where she implored her colleagues, who are between 13% and 25% behind in the polls to “stand up and fight”.
With all 33 seats up for election to Harlow District Council in May next year, the Tories have quite a fight on their hands to retain the council, they took back in May 2021.
In the evening, veteran broadcaster, Alastair Stewart OBE was guest of honour at the Harlow Conservatives annual dinner held at Canons Brook Golf Club.
Mr Stewart was a broadcaster, most notably with ITN for close to fifty years. He has now retired after a short stint at GB News.
So not small businesses as Rob said on twitter.
Bringing out the big guns, it will be tight in Harlow, Vince will be mixing with the labour voters and Robert will be sitting on the A414 with a sign for to vote for him. God help up with these two parties, we need someone to represent the rest of Harlow residents
To be honest Cris is right but also the voters need to take a big look at Harlow and just take on board the state of it IE Roads Employment Car parking, Homes for so called Harlow residents that have been promissed for so long yet still not showing. I see the same people in the council but with different jobs! we have even had our leader resign yet become Chairperson! no questions asked! Then we had the HTS leader resign yet is still on council! Its all messed up and we need a change
The sub text is that Halfon is promoting Penny Mordant to replace Sunak, either before or after the election. He will swear loyalty and confidence in the new leader, just as he did with May, Boris, Truss.and Sunak. With friends like Halfon, who needs enemies?
I have to say that locally, the conservatives seem to be having a good go at improving the town (although nationally they are poor). Cris, if you want someone to represent the rest of Harlow residents, why don't you put your hand up.
>> So not small businesses as Rob said on twitter. Rob was accurate. This article doesn't have the full details and got the timing incorrect. Penny Mordaunt and Rob Halfon were speaking in the morning to a breakfast for local businesses organised by the Conservatives. "Ms Mordaunt made a rallying speech at the recent Tory party conference" is a reference to a previous event.
