THE HARLOW councillor in charge of finance has explained in details how close to £750,000 has been written off.
Councillor James Leppard spoke at the Monday night meeting of the Conservative-run council cabinet.
He explained that the debt covered a three-year period from March 2020 to late 2023.
Usually, it is reported on annually but the three year report was a consequence of Covid and all that entails.
Labour members had a number of questions for Cllr Leppard.

Great idea, might try this myself... just to set the record straight.
To set record straight: from March 2020 to May 2021 there was a Labour administration in charge of Harlow Council. During lockdowns this Labour council were the only one in Essex that failed to cut the grass.
So during Covid, efforts were focused on handing out grants - That is fair as they were exceptional times - We approached the council a few times to see if we could have a business handout, but it always seemed that they hadn't quite got their act together or we were too late - Seemed that it wasn't as clear and overt as it might be. Anyway, now that Central Government has been tarnished by the sleaze around Baroness Michelle Mone, PPE, Boris Johnson, Freeports etc. etc. etc. It would be great if Harlow Council, in the interest of transparent and open government, could make readily available a list of all the Covid Business Grants that they gave out and alongside that, it would be good to see all the businesses that haven't paid their Business Rates - After all, it is us who are going to have to make up the shortfall one way or another.
