A BUMPER crowd came to see Harlow go so so close against top of the table Southend at Latton Park on Saturday afternoon.

This season was supposed to be about consolidation after a promotion winning season last year.

However, no-one seems to have given head coach Michael Weston and his team the script as they went into second place in the league.

Southend dominated the first half. After 30 minutes it was 17-3 and all Southend, as you feared that this very organised team could really run away with things.

But deep into the first half, Harlow spent a considerable amount of time down in Southend’s half. It didn’t amount to anything but it signalled a swing in momentum.

That momentum continued into a second half that Harlow dominated. It may not have been pretty but it was effective.

It was also a testament to the ground staff that the match was on.

Harlow really pressed on and although they only scored the one try it was the manner of how they played the second half that will live long in the memory and be a real launchpad for next season.

Final Score: Harlow 10 v 17 Southend
