Harlow MP Robert Halfon crowned ‘Minister of the Year’ for work in Government

News / Sun 10th Mar 2024 at 09:37am

HARLOW’S Robert Halfon MP has been crowned ‘Minister of the Year’ at a reception in the House of Commons. The longstanding Harlow Member of Parliament has previously been named ‘Backbencher of the Year’ and has now bagged another award in recognition of his tireless work to champion education, skills and apprenticeships.

The Public and Political Life Awards 2024, hosted by the Rt Hon Valerie Vaz MP and leading policy group EPG, brings together members of the diaspora community and distinguished politicians from across the world to shine a light on their work to break through glass ceilings.

Praised for his work as the Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education, and for his passion and dedication to driving social mobility through education, Mr Halfon now joins of the ranks of previous prestigious awards winners, including former Prime Ministers, David Cameron and Theresa May, and other senior politicians, such as Penny Mordaunt and Keir Starmer.

Speaking to YourHarlow, Mr Halfon said,I was immensely honoured to be named as the ‘Minister of the Year’ at the 2024 Public and Political Life Awards. It is inspiring to follow in the footsteps of other great leaders, both well-known and respected British politicians, and leading figures from overseas, who all do so much for their communities.

“I would like to thank Valerie Vaz MP and EPG for hosting the awards, and my constituents in Harlow and colleagues from across the House of Commons for their unwavering support. I would also like to congratulate my fellow award winners and to thank them for their work in communities across Britain and beyond.

“I am proud to be the Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Edication – it is the best job in Government – and it has been incredible to meet so many teachers, students, apprentices, employers and training providers who work hard to help young people climb the ladder of opportunity everyday since I was appointed in October 2022. This award is really dedicated to all those who are helping to transform Britain into a skills and apprenticeships nation.”

Our MP is a bit of a Jeckle and Hyde. He does do some excellent stuff, as reported above and for which I congratulate him. Unfortunately he also spouts nonsense about lower taxes. He has also contributed to global warming and increased traffice with his campaign to keep fuel prices low

I've written to him several times expressing my concerns about unsustainable levels of immigration. I am always polite and constructive. He has never once replied. Perhaps like the rest of his colleagues he believes I'm bigoted for raising the subject. I won't vote for him again.

Only an MP from 'arlow could be "Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Edication" :) Congrats all the same.

Well done Robert Halfon. His work in the Education Select Committee deserved recognition. It should be noted that the person presenting Halfon with his award is Valerie Vaz, the Labour MP for Walsall South since 2010.

Minister of the year 😂😂😂 Look at the absolute heap the rest of them are! So he managed to not be openly racist or sexist or openly corrupt or say anything utterly brainless to a journalist or get caught stealing (again). When you have literally THE WORST GOVERNMENT IN BRITISH HISTORY who have precided over a study in abject failure with 14 years of failing after failing - across the board (pick any criteriato measure by btw). Then sure, just pick someone, anyone who hasn't made humiating headlines. Well done for doing the bare minimum. Honestly, the level that British politics has got to when we are celebrating the mediocre success of someone whos great achievement is to not humiliate himself or the party. We're in big trouble.

Robert is a good MP and represents everyone fairly no matter what side of the political spectrum you are, However he has been let down on so many occasions by his Central office, The New Hospital, The moving of UKHSA, Taxation levels, failure to really control immigration, it would be a shame to lose him at the next GE.

What a joke. Education is in a mess. Starved of funds, dangerous school buildings and teachers and heads leaving in record numbers. Halfon is a failure as a minister and an MP for harlow . He grabs credit for things that never come to fruition. Be glad to see the back of him.

Pedro - he represents a Party that has made a complete pig's ear of just about everything they've tried to do and overall they continue to let their members and traditional voters down. A vote for him is a vote to keep them in power. Mainstream politics in this country is a shambles, with one Party being barely distinguishable from the next in terms of competency. They each take it for granted that one or other of the two will win. Time for people to give them a punch on the nose and vote for a smaller Party.
