Letter to Editor: A teacher responds to Robert Halfon

Dear Editor,

MAY I address my comments to a recent letter by Harlow MP Robert Halfon on education.

I work in a secondary school just outside Harlow. The roof leaks in several places and, in heavy rain, buckets are out to catch the water.

Classes of over 30 are common, although the classrooms only have desk space for just 30. Teaching assistant support for pupils with additional needs is virtually non existent.

We have no text books at all in my department. The technician who supported our department has left for better paid work and has not been replaced.

Some classes for core subjects had only non specialist, day to day, supply teachers for more than a year. My school is not unusual in facing these issues.

The young people who are attending schools in leaking buildings, without essential equipment and staff, are not having their life chances boosted by your government.

They are struggling through in a valiant effort despite the government you claim to be a proud member of.

You should be ashamed.

Very well said. This Government should be ashamed of themselves. It’s the same in Harlow schools. No support for underpaid teaching assistants. Mouldy school buildings, no resources to teach and staff are using their own pockets to buy stationery. Schools increased the price of after school clubs to raise money ..it’s wrong. Our kids deserve better.

Make him & them pay at the next General Election. Change is critical!

Vote these people like Halfon out. At best, they are out of touch with reality and have no clue when they speak up singing their own praises, at worst, they are lying. Either way they're not fit to run the country and are ruining lives in so many ways, not just in education.
