Another chance to secure funding for public health interventions

ORGANISATIONS are being invited to express their interest in a major grant scheme aimed at improving the health of Essex residents.

Since launching in September, Essex County Council’s Public Health Accelerator Bids (PHAB) programme has supported dozens of projects across the county.

PHAB was set up as part of the council’s commitment to reducing health inequalities. It supports the aims of the Essex Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities Business Plan.

Grants are available across two grant funding streams – small grants and major grants over £15,000.

PHAB major grants are awarded following a two-stage process. Initial expressions of interest are followed by a formal application process.

Previous recipients of major grants include NHS organisations, charities and councils.

The third round of Expressions of Interest opened today (Monday 8 April). Organisations have until 5pm on Friday 3 May 2024 to submit their expressions of interest.

Dr. Danny Showell, Public Health Consultant at Essex County Council, said: “Through PHAB we are seeking to unlock the innovation and insights of groups across Essex to support communities with the worst health outcomes.

“We want to see a reduction in health inequality and improvements in the health and wellbeing of our residents. If your group is up to the challenge do apply for a PHAB grant.”

If successful in their expression of interest, bidders for the major funding round will be invited to submit an application form this summer.
