Ward by ward: Little Parndon and Town Centre

Elections / Sun 14th Apr 2024 at 03:13pm

THREE years ago, Harlow Labour leader, Chris Vince looked like he was about to lose his seat in what was a disastrous night for Labour.

He survived and is now, along with two others, set to defend the seat.

A week after that terrible night, councillors Vince and Durcan were back out on the doorstep listening to voters.

That says an awful lot about them.

We have chosen this ward as the first, as it is one of the easier to predict (we think).

Labour should take all three seats as part of their big push to re-take the council.

There is a lot riding on this. If they do gain Harlow, there will be a lot of publicity both locally and nationally.

Chris Vince will achieve a major ambition in heading a council. The “what happens if he becomes MP? question will come).

If Maggie Hulcoop wins, then she may become chair of the council (last time she was greatly restricted due to Covid).

But it will be interesting to see how popular Labour are in this seat in 2024. More than 70% of the vote here?

The Conservatives have done well to get three candidates out. The fact that they have 33 out across the town will serve them well in better times for them. They may have to hold their nerve in 2024 and look to the next elections in 2026.

Again, without sounding too patronising, the Greens have got a great turnout and will be looking for more than the 66 votes in the last local election.

You could pin a red rosette on the rear end of a donkey in Little Parndon and it would get elected!

And Pedro manages to insult many people in one go... how nice.
