THE portfolio holder for the environment, cllr Nicky Purse provided the council with an update regarding plans for a community orchard in Fold Croft.
Readers may recall the proposals by Harlow resident, Carly Burd to turn the Cannons Gate allotments into a community allotment.

Despite, national and international publicity, the plans were abandoned.
However, the tireless councillor Purse is a determined community champion and has pledged to turn it into a a community orchard.
Her Labour shadow, Jake Shepherd asked if the plans were bearing fruit.
The area will need clearing as the Canons Gate allotment has gone to ruin since the Carly Bird experience. Still, a community orchard is not a bad idea. Good luck with this.
As long as all the "salt" has disappeared.!!!
Not living near the area this proposal has no bearing on me but it seems a great idea. But goodness, why is the process so ponderous, just buy a few trees, dig a few holes, bingo, you have an orchard.
