Interview with boss of HTS: David Morrissey

Business / Tue 4th Mar 2025 at 07:04am

IT has been a year since we interviewed the chief executive of HTS, David Morrissey reports Charlotte Pedroz.

It has been a busy year. When we last interviewed him, he was up in Shawbridge, near Staple Tye, where properties were being renovated.

And just now,, we have published a press release on commitment to grass cutting across the town.

So we thought this would be a good time to go down to the HTS offices, down off River Way and speak to him.

No mention of the projected £1.455M deficit at the end of the current financial year (March 31, 2025). The evidence is in paragraph 43 of the minutes of the Council's Shareholder Sub Committee of January 29 this year: "Andy Belton advised that the intention is for HTS to fund a large proportion of the projected £1.455 million from a combination of efficiencies and use of the HTS reserve fund. Andy advised that the HTS Board will review the plan and arrangements at the meeting on 10 February 2025." Andy Belton at the time of the Shareholder Sub Committee meeting of January 29 was Non-Executive Chair of HTS Group Ltd.

Following the HTS Board meeting of February 10, how many jobs are being axed? The euphemism of "efficiency savings" is exposed in paragraph 42 of the Shareholder Sub Committee minutes of January 29 when Chief Executive David Morrisey is asked about a 5% efficiency savings target. Morrisey says he "expected a saving of £500k by 31 March 2025. This is predominantly coming from reducing head count."
