Walking the beat with Harlow’s Inspector Archer

Communities / Wed 20th Aug 2025 at 03:01pm

OVER the last few weeks, Inspector Leanne Archer has been out and about on the beat in Harlow.

Your Harlow editor, Michael Casey joined the Inspector and Chief Inspector Jenna Mirrington-French as they walked the Potter Street area.

Here are his observations.

“Firstly we really applaud Inspector Archer for this initiative. The inspector really went out there to speak to residents and get as much helpful feedback as possible.

“Yes, we know we should see more officers out on the street and we will see how government commitments play out.

The inspector spoke to shoppers in Prentice Place and they seemed quite content. There was nothing that came to mind.

One London Road resident flagged up speeding on her road as well as an unoccupied dwelling house that they felt could be a target for anti-social behaviour.

Another mentioned off road bikes and graffiti tags. If you have been daubing “Vibe” everywhere, then the police are on it.

In many ways what both officers did was good old fashioned beat work. Sometimes people want to get stuff off their chest.

On other occasions, they saw what looked like an abandoned mobility scooter on the cycle track. it wasn’t.

They saw for themselves, the irritating issue of parking on the pavement. Again, talking to residents about the issues does a lot for community relations.

“This wasn’t a major fact finding mission but we think that by the end of the summer, Insp. Archer will have built up a much clearer picture of our community.

“Here at Your Harlow, we will always be critical friends of the police but they have to be applaud in Harlow for really reaching out to all the connectors and partners in order to try and make to a safer place”.

Michael Casey says: "we know we should see more officers out on the street and we will see how government commitments play out." I consulted my crystal ball and it said "yet another manifesto disappointment by Starmer."

Verified figures show that the country is 18,000 short in police officer numbers since 2010. Will that change? The promises made by this Tory-Lite government suggests not sadly.
