Mrs Dalloway set to bring class to the Harlow Playhouse
Entertainment / Sun 17th May 2026 at 09:13am
A SINGLE day in London, 1923. Clarissa Dalloway, an upper-class woman in her fifties, prepares for the party she’s hosting that evening. As she walks through the city – buying flowers and thinking about her life – she sifts through memories, regrets, and old romances; asking questions about ageing, class, marriage, and what makes the “right” choice.

At the same time, Septimus Smith – a traumatised war veteran struggling after World War I – and his wife desperately seek understanding on the other end of the class divide.
As the party culminates, ‘Mrs Dalloway’ invites us to consider how our lives briefly overlap, over and over, in visible and invisible ways – just as our own stories in 2026 overlap with Virginia Woolf’s a century ago.
Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece bursts into life with a bold new reimagining co-produced by Storyhouse, Harlow Playhouse and CutToTheChase Productions and adapted and directed by award-winning director Jen Heyes, co-created alongside Olivier Award-winning artist Kit Green who also embodies the lead role and a host of other characters.
