Harlow runners brave the heat in scorching Hatfield Broad Oak 10K

Athletics / Wed 27th May 2026 at 07:15am

HARLOW runners were part of a 1000 strong field at the 40th running of the Hatfield Broad Oak 10k on Bank Holiday Monday.

As you may have noticed the conditions were very very hot with the temperature gauge touching 90 degrees.

So first things first, we are sure each and everyone would like to thank the organisers who took great care of each and every runner.

We are sure they would also like to thank the kind residents of Hatfield Broad Oak who brought out their sprinklers.

They were stationed along the High Street and then on to Broad Street to the great relief and appreciation of the runners.

Due to safety concerns, there was a ninety minute cut off point. The runner who made it by eleven seconds would like to thank one of the support team at the finish line (Cat McCabe) for her concern.

But well done to everyone who looked after and encouraged other runners around them.

Well done to Ash Harrell who won in an excellent time of 33.41. Harlow’s Martin Westley grabbed the silver in an outstanding 34.04.

Hatfield Broad Oak is part of Harlow MP Chris Vince’s constituency, so he took the opportunity to run 10K in the blazing heat. He is clearly in fine form after his London Marathon.

Well done to Innovation Multisport’s youngest member Arthur. The twelve-year-old achieved a top ten in the 2k road race.
