THIS year will see the official launch of the Harlow Town Cricket Club Girls team. Nicknamed the Tornadoes, the team includes no less than seven Essex CCC squad members. The team, based at HTCC’s home at Ash Tree Fields in Harlow, will be skippered by Francesca Cavadino and managed by Lee Richardson. The first official fixture is scheduled for May 11th where the team will take on Saffron Walden CC at home.

Chairman Stuart Alderson comments “This is another really exciting development in the continued growth of our club. We have had a mission for a number of years to develop girls cricket in the Town and this took a leap forward last year as we hosted a number of Essex CCC matches.

“The improvements to the club house and changing facilities have really made a difference to what we can accommodate in terms of matches so we decided that now was the time to launch the team. Lee, who’s daughter Isabel is in the Essex Squad, has been instrumental in building the team and we are both really excited about the season ahead. We have a number of sponsors interested in working with us to help raise the awareness and profile of the team with Intercounty Harlow leading the way.

“We held the first official squad training session last night and it was amazing to see the girls taking up two of the four nets we have available for junior training at Passmores Academy, whilst the U13 boys trained in the other two. We now have a two week break with practice starting again on Monday 3rd at 7:15 pm. We are open to new members and encourage any girls aged between 9 and 15 who have an interest in cricket to come along and join in”
