The silver Suzuki Alto was presented to Myrtle Prodger after her ticket was drawn by Hospice mascot Clare the Bear from a giant inflatable air dome at the Harvey Centre on March 31.
Mrs Prodger, from Harlow, said: “I was completely staggered and delighted when I received the phone call to say I had won. St Clare is a wonderful place and as I retired nurse, I understand just how important the service is to local people. It’s a privilege to be able to support the Hospice in this way.”
This year was the Hospice’s biggest-ever Spring Raffle, with a total of 25 prizes up for grabs to mark the Hastingwood-based charity’s Silver Jubilee.
The other Spring Raffle winners were:
· 2nd prize £1,000 cash – Kenneth Clarke from Harlow
· 3rd prize 40in TV – Nadine Holland from Loughton
· 4th prize £250 shopping voucher – Mr Bacon from Redditch
· 5th prize 10in tablet – Patricia Chappell from Hertford
A further 20 tickets were drawn, with the winners each receiving a £25 gift voucher.
Some 13,000 tickets were sold for the Spring Raffle, which was sponsored by Insight Private Finance and supported by Spellbrook car dealership Hilton Suzuki, helping raise almost £28,000 for St Clare to help fund the compassionate care and support it provides to people with terminal and life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones.
St Clare lottery manager Caron Lakey said: “Since the Hospice was founded in 1990, we have been able to help care for and support more than 10,000 people, but we can only continue to be there for local families into the future with the support of our local community. So we really are grateful to everyone who bought a raffle ticket, helping us raise vital income so we can provide our specialist care and support to every local person who needs us, now and in the years to come.”
