Athletics: In the footsteps of Zatopek

TWO Harlow Running Club members completed marathons at the weekend, one at home
and one abroad.

At the Prague Marathon in the Czech Republic, Sean Flynn finished in 2780th
place out of 6510 finishers in 4hrs 00min 53sec and at the Halstead & Essex
Marathon Paul Dixon finished in 185th place out of 390 finishers in 4hrs 07min

Meanwhile at the Dereham 10 mile race in Norfolk Andy Kinney finished in 348th
place out of 413 finishers in 1hr 36min 56sec.

At the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 10K Rachel Morris finished in 134th place
out of 269 finishers in a personal best time for the distance (PB) of 53min

Three members were in attendance at the St Neots Triathlon. At the Olympic
Distance, 1.5k swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run, Andy Kitson finished in 40th
place out of 195 finishers in 2hrs 35min 25sec and Holly Nairn was 115th in 3hrs
00min 18sec.

At the Sprint Distance, a 750m swim, 20k bike ride and a 5k run, Gail Nicholls
finished in 91st place out of 142 finishers and 2nd Female Vet 50 in 1hr 36min

Several more members participated in 5K parkruns.
At the Gunpowder parkrun Afewerk Riossom was 1st finisher out of 207 finishers
in 16min 47sec, Amaniel Tesfay was 2nd in 18.22, Holly Nairn 47th in 25.15 (PB)
and Melody Nairn 85th in 28.28.

At the Harlow parkrun Ian Charters was also 1st finisher out of 204 finishers in
a PB time of 18min 36sec. He was followed home by Darren Tiley 3rd in 19.56,
Andy Terrell 4th in 20.01, Andy Kitson 6th in 21.21, Martin Westley 12th in
22.18, Graham Saville 19th in 22.40, Catherine Ridge 21st in 22.47, John Bull
27th in 23.28, Darren Rautenbach 30th in 23.36, Barry Mooney 32nd in 23.41,
Viola Tam 38th in 24.17, Jim Bates 47th in 25.20, Andrew Smith 50th in 25.35,
Jane Evans 54th in 25.57, Debbie Barry 72nd in 27.23, Peter Mills 76th in 27.31,
Louise Cootes 77th in 27.37, Caz Smith 88th in 29.30, Alan Wellbelove 91st in
29.38, Hossein Erfani 100th in 30.16, Austin Nyamande 126th in 32.40 and Joanne
Mills 139th in 33.19.

At the Enfield parkrun Danny McCree finished in 2nd place out of 203 finishers
in a PB time of 19min 01sec.

At the Brentwood parkrun Martyn Coulter finished in 10th place out of 213
finishers in 21min 18sec.

At the Hatfield Forest parkrun Justin Patten finished in 100th place out of 332
finishers in 25min dead.

At the Braintree parkrun Martin Elven finished in 82nd place out of 322
finishers in 25min 56sec.

At the Hatfield parkrun Brenda Clayton finished in 131st place out of 194
finishers in 29min 15sec which is a new Club Female Vet 70 record.

A late result from the previous week from the Lee Valley Aquathon. In the 500m
swim and 5.5k run event Darren Tiley finished in 12th place out of 36 finishers
in 34min 53sec and Paul Schroder was 27th in 39.34.
In the Ladies race Holly Nairn finished in 6th place out of 10 finishers in
40min 20sec and Louise Kedge was 7th in 40.41.
In the 250m swim/3k run event Ian Charters finished in 3rd place out of 12
finishers in 18min 50sec and Darren Rautenbach was 5th place in 20.31.
