HARLOW TOWN 249 – 8 ARDLEIGH GREEN 194 all out

THE sun shone at Phoenix Park on Saturday as Harlow Town made hay! After losing Dan Baldwin with only eight runs on the board, Ashley Alderson, 66 and Joe Holland, 69, took control putting the visitors to the sword with a second wicket stand of 156. Neil Gladwin joined Holland and the experienced pair took the score from 160 to 228.

A score of 300+ looked on the cards, but with Holland’s dismissal, bowled Chris Cook, caught James Lavender, Town lost their way as Gladwin saw wickets tumble around him. He was eventually dismissed, trapped LBW for 45, whilst trying to push the score along as his middle order partners could only make 14 runs between them.

A late flourish by the lower order, Ronnie Yates, 14 not out, which included an outrageous clip over the wicket keeper’s head and Jack Elston, 9 not out, saw Town use up their 50 overs with a below par score of 249 – 8.

An under performance by the Town’s bowling attack saw the visitors steadily move towards their target as the majority of their batting side made a contribution to the score. Opener Alex Carson, 57, top scored as Town struggled to take wickets for most of the afternoon and the visitors stayed up with the run rate, but cometh the man, cometh the hour as Jack Elston was introduced to the attack by skipper Scott Alderson, and he did not let his captain down with a match winning performance of 6 wickets for 40 runs in his allotted 10 overs, taking Town to victory by 55 runs and keeping them in 2nd place in their league. Ronnie Yates, 2 wickets, Dan Farmer and Jay Pathak one apiece were the other wicket takers.
Man of the match – Jack Elston.
