THE Harvey Centre is pleased to announce that it will be taking part in Harlow’s street carnival on Sunday 23rd July 2017 as part of Harlow’s 70th birthday celebrations.

The Carnival will celebrate 70 years of the town (1947 to 2017). The Harvey Centre is 35 this year and was ‘born in the 80s’ so they will be celebrating this decade in the carnival. Dancers will be dressed in the ultimate 80s clobber, carrying a boom box playing the coolest tracks of the 80s. Dancers will also be handing out free flower garlands and canvas shopping bags for the public to enjoy in celebration of the centre’s birthday.

To celebrate its 35th birthday, The Harvey Centre in Harlow has also built a time capsule, which will be opened in 2052. The time capsule celebrates Harlow’s past and present and has been decorated with a number of intricate colourful mosaics, to represent Harlow’s Roman past, while the pixelated design will reflect the current digital age. The design of the time capsule depicts familiar, everyday aspects of Harlow life, some from the past, some from 2017 and will include buildings, sculptures, cars, birds, trees, people and sign posts.

The Carnival, organised by Harlow Council, will start from The Stow at 12 noon travelling along First Avenue and ending in the Town Park in time for the start of the popular Linkfest Music Festival being held at The Bandstand.

The time capsule was unveiled in the centre on 18th July and is now on display at The Harvey Centre as part of the Harlow Art and Sculpture Trail.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “The Carnival is set to be a huge extravaganza for the town and we are thrilled to be involved. The 80s theme is totally perfect and we really hope the dancers, music and freebies provide that extra bit of fun for the public to enjoy on this very special day!”
