THE Harvey Centre in Harlow wanted to do something extra special to celebrate Easter this year and so welcomed children’s picture book favourite, The Gruffalo, to the centre on Saturday 31st March. The Gruffalo made appearances between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and was the perfect opportunity for children and families to see this classic character brought to life in a spectacular way.

Children were also able to let their imaginations run wild as they made wooden spoon puppets in the centre’s craft workshops – organised especially for the event by The Harvey Centre. A professional storyteller also added another dimension to the Easter experience and read a variety of popular children’s books to children at the event.

All events were totally FREE of charge to participate in – offering families the perfect way to entertain children at the start of the Easter holiday break. By making a move away from traditional Easter themed activities, The Harvey Centre was able to offer Harlow families a unique and memorable event that appealed to all generations.

The Gruffalo is a children’s picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It tells the story of Mouse’s encounter with The Gruffalo while taking a walk through the deep, dark woods. The book has sold over 13 million copies, has won several prizes for children’s literature and has been developed into plays on both the West End and Broadway.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “Saturday’s event was something totally different – the Gruffalo is a truly iconic character which families and all ages really love. It was a totally fabulous way for us to celebrate Easter!”
