Cricket: Weather rains on Harlow Town’s weekend

SATURDAY saw the start of the league season for Town’s four sides however rain impacted all of them with no game being completed.
The first XI were hosting Loughton upon their return to the second division after their success last year. Losing the toss, Town were asked to bat, Ashley Alderson and Suraj Chauhan started confidently with the latter being aggressive falling for 19. Jibran Azam joined Alderson until rain finished the game with the score 51 for 1.
The second XI had the short trip of playing away to Epping and had the hosts 36-3 with Hafeez taking 2 wickets and a run out from Ben Tyne until the game was abandoned due to the weather.
In the other home fixture, the thirds hosted Westcliff-on-Sea. Batting first, Town were 85-1 with John Simpson scoring 36 and Chris Matthews with 31 not out.
Finally, a ball wasn’t bowled for the fourth team and their first match away to Tye Green in the Herts & Essex League.
