THE commitment and dedication Harlow’s volunteers contribute is being recognised during this year’s National Volunteers’ Week, which runs until the 7th of June.
This week is an opportunity for the town to say a big thank you to the many volunteers who work all year round to support our community. It goes without saying that volunteers have played a significant role as a core part of the local pandemic response. During an exceptionally difficult year, people from all walks of life have taken time to volunteer. Their efforts have made a huge difference across the town. The invaluable contribution of the town’s volunteers during the pandemic has highlighted what can be achieved when our community works together, united under a common cause to save lives.
Whether they choose to help out at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, work in partnership with the council’s Community Hub, get involved in a local group, charity or support a specific project, Harlow’s volunteers are contributing so much to life in our town. Many of these volunteers have also got involved in helping with the successful rollout of the town’s vaccination programme.
Councillor Joel Charles, Deputy Leader of Harlow Council, said:
“This year’s National Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary efforts of volunteers who are working at Lister House and Leisurezone to deliver the town’s vaccination programme. Their continued efforts are saving lives.
“Harlow is known for having a thriving voluntary sector. Our faith groups, charities, community associations and local campaigners work tirelessly to support those most in need.
“The volunteers who stepped up during the lockdowns to keep people safe will never be forgotten. It is the council’s intention to build on the successful voluntary effort over the last 15 months and develop a community resilience plan that promotes the value of selfless dedication shown by our town’s COVID volunteers.”
