FROM People’s Postcode to Local Lotto – community lotteries are on the rise, and one opportunity to visit Lady Luck that cannot be missed is the popular St Clare Hospice Lottery, first launched more than 20 years ago to support income generation for the Hastingwood-based charity.

From 21st – 27th June St Clare Hospice will be celebrating their second annual ‘Love our Lottery’ week when they will be showcasing the amazing care that Lottery players help to fund, marking the week across their eight Hospice shops, and inviting more local people to sign-up to play, and help St Clare to care.

As of spring 2021, St Clare’s Lottery boasted more than 15,000 weekly entries, which last year helped to raise over £456,000 for the West Essex and East Herts Hospice. The income generated by people playing the St Clare Hospice Lottery pays for the care of around 1 in 9 of the Hospice charity’s patients.

Paula Fogg, Lottery Manager at St Clare Hospice. “With new plans for St Clare Hospice to reach more local people than ever over the next few years, there’s even more need to raise as much as possible to help bring these plans into fruition. We know that our growing Lottery community can help to make that happen!

Paula explains, “Playing the St Clare Lottery is a really fun way to support the Hospice, and it means that you’re in with a chance of winning one of 24 prizes every single week! We dish out more than £1,300 in prizes each week, and that’s not to mention our Rollover, which can get up to £10,000 with £200 being added to the ‘pot’ every week. So, whilst you support your local Hospice in a really powerful way, you’re also in with a chance of winning the jackpot!”

It costs £1 per entry to play St Clare Hospice’s Lottery, which is drawn weekly. Over the course of one month, it costs £4.34 when you subscribe to play once a week with a monthly direct debit – the price of a few cups of coffee.

Recent St Clare Hospice Lottery winner, Kate Munson from Loughton, won £1,000 and said:

“I came to know St Clare through the Hospice at Home care they provided for my mother back in 2010. My father, my sister Emma, and myself looked after my mother at her home in Loughton, with the help from Hospice at Home in her final days. It was my mother’s wish to not die in hospital, if at all possible, and St Clare’s made this wish possible. We could not have got through this time without Hospice at Home’s practical and emotional support. All of St Clare’s team were truly amazing, and we can never thank them enough.”

“Signing up to play the St Clare Lottery was a way for us to continue to support the Hospice and repay the help they have provided to our family. I felt truly grateful when I found out I had won £1,000 from the Lottery’s weekly draw.”
