THE Phoenix Resource Centre, Harlow (registered charity number 1133503), was thrilled to receive the local support of the Colt Hatch Co-Operative this month, along with a £200 cheque, presented by manageress Amy Witt.
The money will be used to help supply breakfasts within the local community through the charity’s Phoenix Community Kitchen and Str-EAT initiatives.
Since the Spring, The Phoenix Resource Centre has been driving several projects to address a rising need in the Harlow community for help with food shortages and hunger, especially among school children, the elderly, and those hit by harsh economic times.
The Phoenix Resource Centre has used the foundation of its local environmental and upcycling work to launch an independent food project – “Phoenix Community Kitchen” which is part of the larger “Str-EAT” project starting in Autumn 2021.
These projects use surplus food supplies to provide breakfast to anyone who needs it for free, with the ultimate objective to build a self sustaining community hub around food.
