Cricket: Harlow CC win much-coveted indoor title

HARLOW CC indoor (1st XI) side produced two huge victories this week to clinch a fabulous league title in the HECC Indoor League.
In a season long battle with a very fine Matching Green 1st XI team our side were caught cold in their opening fixture losing to Matching but then won every other fixture including the reverse against our near neighbours.
With Matching finishing their fixtures a week ago Harlow had two games left to play knowing that victories would bring them level on points with their rivals. The only issue at that stage was a significantly inferior run rate.
If additional motivation was needed, it was certainly given by the opposition posting social media posts celebrating winning the league title in advance of our fixtures. Spurred on by the said posts Harlow needed to win the two games by a combined winning total of 81 runs.
On Monday Sawbridgeworth were overcome thanks to an outstanding bowling effort by 50 runs and tonight HECC were beaten by 79 runs as we ended up comfortably surpassing the Matching Green run rate.
The squad consisted of captain Ben Yeats, Callum Sykes, Andre Riddell, Matt Hart, Paddy Matthews, Abi Farooq, Nathan McCarthy, Mark Quant, Ben Terrington and Jake Messenger.
All contributed to a superb season but there was no doubt that our bowling in particular was the best in the division with all the boys consistently producing high quality spells.
The side are back together in the New Year as West Essex representatives in the County Finals. Many congratulations to all involved.
