Harlow man faces trial over abduction, serious assault and coercive behaviour charges

A HARLOW man is set to stand trial following a number of charges including abduction, serious assault and coercive and controlling behaviour.
Matthew James, aged 22, of Morris House, Harlow has been charged with the following.
On January 1st, 2022 at Harlow assaulted and unlawfully and injuriously imprisoned a woman and detained her against her will.
On January 1st, 2022 at Harlow assaulted a woman, thereby occasioning her, actual bodily harm.
Between February 1st, 2021 and March 17th, 2021, in Kent repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, namely used violence and analysed a woman’s social media accounts, towards her, to whom, at the time of the behaviour, you were personally connected in that you were in an intimate relationship, that behaviour having a serious effect on her and you knew or ought to have known that the behaviour would have a serious effect on her.
On March 17th, 2021 at Dover in Kent assaulted a male, thereby occasioning him, actual bodily harm.
Between March 18th, 2021 and May 14th, 2021 18/03/2021 at Dover in the county of Kent your course of conduct amounted to stalking and caused a woman serious alarm or distress, which had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities when you knew or ought to have known that your course of conduct would cause alarm or distress to her on each occasion in that sent numerous messages asking to account for her whereabouts, attempted to call using Whatsapp and a with-held number.
On July 12th, 2020 at Harlow assaulted a woman.
On July 12th, 2020 at Harlow without lawful excuse, damaged a door and door frame to the value of unknown value belonging to another intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.
On July 11th, 2020 at Harlow without lawful excuse, damaged walls to the value of unknown belonging to another intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.
On July 11th, 2020 at Harlow assaulted a woman by beating her.
James was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
He has indicated a plea of not guilty and a trail by jury is expected.
