Blogpost: New Bush Fair councillor settles into role and believes communication is key (but not 5G masts in Little Brays!)

YH has asked newly elected Bush Fair councillor Kay Morrison if she would write a monthly blog for us.
We asked as we know that in previous political and civic roles outside Harlow, cllr Morrison has been embedded in the local communities she has served.
Kay was the former Deputy Provost of Fife. That’s just an excuse for us to use the words “lang ladle”.
Here is cllr Morrison’s first blog.
Telecommunications masts have grabbed my attention recently. A telecommunications mast must be sited with due regard to its effect on its surroundings. It should ‘assimilate well into the immediate street scene and not be detrimental.’ In other words, it should not be positioned slap-bang next to housing or in a children’s play space.
Unfortunately, the masts proposed for Bush Fair are destined to dominate the immediate area, impact on housing close by, damage play space used by youngsters, impede wheelchairs/pushchairs, and colossally detract from the existing streetscape.
We’re not against telecommunications masts …. but they must be located sympathetically and sensitively. Campaigns are well under way, objections lodged and a petition signed.
I’ve spent time on other issues, of course, mainly overgrown vegetation of various kinds and trees and more trees.
Waterhouse Moor Residents Association generously welcomed me to their meeting: I left with a few tasks. I’ll tell you about those in my next bulletin.
My best wishes.
Kay
She needn't bother knocking on my door.
The overgrown vegetation and trees might possibly be sorted if HTS were able to recruit more gardeners. If any of you with some gardening knowledge fancy a full-time career looking after the town's environment, you may wish to join the very helpful and friendly HTS parks and landscapes team. Supervisors Matt and Steve are good people who will guide you in your new profession. The terms and conditions on offer are good and your safety at work will be looked after. You can find the vacancies at https://www.fish4.co.uk/job/13068987/gardener/
