Letter to Editor: Concerns over bonfires in residential areas

General / Mon 25th Jul 2022 am31 08:31am

Dear Editor,

AFTER several years of asking our neighbours to not burn bonfires in their garden during the day, please see photographs below of the bonfire. This is now becoming a regular occurrence.

The smoke is a safety hazard as it is blowing into our houses. The flames were well over 12 foot tall.

Several neighbours asked them to stop burning and the response was abuse and threatening comments. Threats and abuse have been reported.

The fire brigade were called and spoke with them but did not put the fire out.

Name and address supplied

Note: A local councillor now has this matter in hand.

Like Aus' we do need the law they have, that bans bonfires and disposable barbecues when it's this dry. It only takes one ember. Add to that cigarettes
