Cricket: Harlow’s Jack Sykes passes 4,000 runs

Cricket / Sun 31st Jul 2022 at 10:18am

HAVING clocked up 100 league appearances a couple of months ago, last Saturday saw Jack Sykes reach 4,000 league runs for the club during the victory over Wickford.

Jack has played in all five adult teams over the years and has a consistent record of run scoring with his 4018 runs coming at a superb average of 50.23 with 23 fifties and 7 hundreds. Quite why he’s batting at 9 at the moment is a slight mystery but potentially injury related.

Not only has Jack scored a hat full of runs but he’s made them in quick time with a strike rate at better than a run a ball. For sure, Jack gorged himself on 5th XI bowling in the HECL (as it was), but he has made big runs at all levels including in the First XI during the 2020 season.

Jack holds the record for the highest innings in club history (all sides) when in 2016 he made 239 not out for the Fifth XI against Hockerill 3’s.

A fine clubman to boot. There really aren’t many willing to take on the volume and range of work on behalf of the club as Jack and he has our collective thanks.

Many congratulations Jack on your latest landmark.

A recent headline of his own a fortnight or so ago having also recached 4,000 runs, John Perry, reached another major landmark as he brought up his 200th league appearance for the club week before last. Another superb clubman. Many congratulations JP – plenty more games in you yet I’m sure.
