A CHRISTMAS sleigh ride through Harlow by a Stortford-based funeral directors has generated almost £2,200 for charity.

The collection in Bishop’s Stortford raised £511.34 for Isabel Hospice and the following night, supporters in Harlow donated £1680.81 to St Clare Hospice.

Barringtons founders Lisa Weeks and Nikki Field told the Bishops Stortford Independent: “Both nights were fantastic, with thousands coming out in freezing temperatures to wave us by.

“The amounts raised do not reflect the success of both nights but with the modern world we live in, so many people don’t carry cash and are keen to capture the moment on camera so miss our donation buckets going by.

“For these reasons, we feel we are missing lots of potential donations. Next year we plan to have card machines for people to tap a small donation at most of our hotspots where the larger crowds gather and hope to raise even more money for these two wonderful charities.

“All in all, the weekend was a huge success bringing much-needed happiness and joy to our local communities which is why we do what we do.

“Seeing the little ones’ faces light up is just priceless and we look forward to doing it all again in December 2023.”
