ESSEX Police has issued a warning after a number of images were circulated on social media relating to the murder investigation at Oakwood Pond in Harlow.

Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby said “We are aware of images, that appear to be taken at Oakwood Pond in Harlow, prior to us being notified,and the area being declared a crime scene. 

We are actively investigating this and have spoken to a number of individuals. We would remind people that firstly at the heart of this matter is a man who had family and loved ones, and the situation is unimaginable for them.  Secondly the nature of this crime scene and alleged offence is extremely distressing and we would urge people not to share or engage in the distribution of images of a deceased individual, an active crime scene. 

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Phil who has lost his life in the most horrendous of circumstances.  I am sure the public can empathise with how painful these images will be for the family if they are further shared, and I would urge them not to do so out of kindness and human decency.

“These matters are subject to active court proceedings and an active investigation and people sharing images on social media may find themselves in Contempt of Court.
