HARLOW CC First XI strolled into the next round of the Essex League Cup after comfortably overcoming visitors Redbridge at Marigolds on Saturday.

Redbridge won the toss and elected to bat but were instantly on the back foot as new arrival Alex Senior bagged three top order wickets in a fine display. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Chris Whitworth (as brace) and Joe Riddell chipped in before 16 year old Matt Fisk (pictured) span his way to 3-6 to close the innings out in style. All the more impressive was the fact that this was Matt’s first appearance at this level in a competitive fixture.

In reply Harlow reached their target in a little under 20 overs with Gul Hassan making 42 not out and Chris Whitworth 34.

Harlow will face much stiffer opposition in Ilford in Round 2. Ilford, who play in Division 1 of the Essex Senior League, narrowly beat Westcliff on Sea in their cup fixture played today.

Harlow are in league action next Saturday at Marigolds in a terrific league opener against local rivals Harlow Town. Should be a big crowd and a tremendous atmosphere to mark the first league derby between the clubs for five years.
