ST Clare Hospice is holding its second annual Palliative Care Conference on 27th September at the Manor of Groves Hotel in Hertfordshire. The local charity covers West Essex and the borders of East Hertfordshire.
Dr Qamar Abbas, Medical Director at St Clare Hospice said, “We are delighted to be holding our second annual conference, and after the success of last year’s event, we look forward to once again welcoming healthcare and social care professionals from across the country.”
“At the St Clare Palliative Care Conference, participants will have an opportunity to learn from experts across a broad range of disciplines and healthcare settings including; hospitals, the community, care homes, and hospices. The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Placing the person at the centre of their care’. We are looking forward to exploring what this means in practice – to ensure all patients and their families and loved ones across our region, remain at the centre of all we do.”
“We have secured an excellent panel of plenary speakers including Dr Erica Borgstrom, a senior lecturer specialising in researching end of life care from anthropological and sociological perspectives, and Revd. Dr Peter Speck from the Cicely Saunders Institute who has authored several books on palliative care and spirituality. We’ll also be joined by Professor Stephen Barclay who leads palliative care undergraduate medical education and palliative care research at the University of Cambridge.”
“This year, we are also delighted to welcome the Haylo Theatre Company – a two-woman company who highlight key issues in areas of health and social care to generate conversations, enable insights and create dialogue on prevalent and complex issues. They will be delivering a theatrical performance entitled ‘Nothing out of the Ordinary’.”
“The conference will provide delegates with the latest evidence and experiences to overcome barriers and challenges the sector is facing, with thought-provoking discussions and innovative viewpoints. The conference includes networking and learning opportunities for all healthcare professionals.”
Dr Qamar Abbas added, “Priced at £95 we believe the Early Bird ticket is excellent value for money. Our aspiration here at St Clare is to reach as wide an audience as possible and we have applied for Continuing Personal Development (CPD) accreditation for attendees. Our goal is to promote ‘placing the person at the centre of their care’ and to offer solutions based on current evidence to help us achieve this across the health, voluntary and social care sector.”
